Why is it – and feel free to post a comment and explain to me – that our current governments seem to have a mandate that depends on two primary emotional responses of fear (of the other) and hate (of all those different from us).
I don’t want to be governed by folk who bandy around vitriol based to discredit certain members of our population – what I want is a vision for the future that is positive. That is based on such crazy ideas like equality before the law for all, sustainable living, living more simply, social inclusiveness for all and social justice. (Just a few random choices here).
What I don’t want in a government is one that demonises and marginalises those who don’t fit in with the current norms. A government that makes cuts in vital services like Health and Education, while at the same time giving jobs to it’s cronies.
What I want for my country is for parliament to be filled with people of vision for the future, and not the next sound bite, people with intelligence and foresight to realise that we grow as a Nation if we include everyone, not just those with enough money to have great lawyers and accountants.
Idle dreams maybe, but I hope that the following generations have more luck in finding representatives who are capable of this task, or I fear that will continue to backslide into a society that is based on those who have and those who will never have.
