I’ve just dropped my son off at school this morning, and he’s left without a backward glance. He was too focused on getting into class and the puzzles that were laid out on the table waiting for interested kids to interact with.
I didn’t cry – a first for me, ususally I’m the one who cries at the drop of a hat, but not today. For today is all about him, and how happy he was to start. This is the first day in his life at school, and with it all the adventures and misadventures that will happen. I’ll look forward to the hug I will receive this afternoon when I pick him up at the school deck, and hear all about his adventures as we walk home.
And for the rest of the day, I’ll stop and wonder and hope that he’ll be meeting other children, all as excited as he is, and all wanting to play and learn. And so it begins…..
